Hong Kong To Ban Vaping?

Vaping. It does have such a mixed relationship with the world. In some places, like here, you’ll find it to be well received, whereas in other areas you’ll see it’s not. In Hong Kong, you might well see it vanish from the world entirely. They’re thinking of banning vaping from the world, and we’re going to be taking a look at the when, where and why.

The Story So Far

To understand the situation at the moment, we must first look to the past. It began last October when the Chief Executive of Hong Kong promised to remove vaping. On the 20th of February, the bill will have the first meeting to discuss whether or not vaping will be removed from the system.

If the law wins, then vaping products will be banned from Hong Kong. There will be no more sales, manufacturing or distribution of vaping items. Those people who do try and sell these products will find that there will be hefty fines and even jail sentences.

Someone from Hong Kong spoke on the subject and said that ‘We worry that young people, who may not be users of conventional tobacco at the moment, will be attracted by the cool-looking alternative products and become smokers through vaping. We want to nip the problem in the bud’.

The Impact on Us All

Unfortunately, there is a hazardous impact for the community at work here should this plan find approval. Our public opinion as a group of people supporting e-cigarettes will once again lower, and there’s nothing which can be done to prevent that.

With every community that turns their backs on vaping, another group finds an example to use when trying to shut vape devices down for good. They point to situations like these and say ‘but the evidence is right here’.

However, what we need to remember is that there is hope. The remaining members of the community must pull together and continue to push the benefits of vaping to the masses. We may not have as many numbers as we would like, but that does not mean that we can not bring about the change we desire. We believe that vaping can be a good thing, and we know that it’s benefits are many and varied.  It is essential that every member of this community try and push for vaping to be more widely accepted, even if you gently defend the concept over dinner with friends.

Overall, it has been a difficult time for vaping these past few days, but we can not allow this to weaken our resolve. Vaping can help many lives and will ultimately prove to be a force for good, but at the same time we should try and work to push the community into a brighter future.
