FLAVOUR BAN TEASED BY FDA – THE NOT-SO-BRIGHT FUTURE?

The future of vaping is something which is sadly up in the air right now, as the FDA has been on the verge of either cracking down on the community or letting us have a bit more freedom. However, it seems that things are changing when it comes to vaping, and the future might be about to get a lot more complicated for our American vapers after all.

The Facts

Flavourings of e-liquids are part of what drives the appeal up so high. Tobacco isn’t something which tastes all that nice for everyone, whereas with vaping you can get things like candy, breakfast cereals and other wonderful flavourings. However, this is part of what has worked for the community when it comes to findings by the FDA. The Commissioner of the FDA, Scott Gottlieb, has said tweeted that ‘e-cigarettes are the most commonly used tobacco product among youth. Preventing youth from initiating the use of any tobacco product, including e-cigs, is critical’, and also that the FDA wants ‘to restrict youth access, limit youth appeal. We’ve also expanded public education efforts to include messaging re: dangers of youth use of e-cigarettes’.

This is all part of the plan for the FDA to roll out what you might consider a poll ahead of their planned alterations to the rules. The poll will ask people what they think on the matter and allows the organisation to collect public information before making a decision.

What Impact Will This Have On The Community?

Understandably, there’s not been a great reception to this from the vaping community-based in America. People have lamented the potential loss of their favourite flavours of vaping, which is understandable. The FDA isn’t a force that you can just ignore and disregard, which means that if they decide to ban the vaping flavours which seem to appeal to both kids and adults, there’s nothing anyone can do about it. If the planned changes are carried through to the end, then vaping businesses will suffer, jobs could be lost, and the ability to avoid tobacco-based products in America will soon stop. This may lower the appeal for vaping, although people would be wise to consider that there are still health benefits to be gained for using a vaping device, regardless of the flavour that you’re using.

Overall, the planned changes may mean that the things aren’t the same in America, but hopefully, they won’t go through with it. There’s still time for vapers and shop owners to draft out their comments in support of these vaping flavours, and explain that there are more benefits to vaping than people are perhaps aware of, and to ditch, these flavours would backfire. We obviously hope that people are successful in saving flavoured e-liquids and that they keep things as they are, or change them in a way which will benefit everyone.
