VAPING AND THE MEDIA – DISPROVING THE BIG LIES

It’s no secret that the media is a double-edged sword for almost everyone. While some people feel that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, it’s also equally valid that media companies have been presented in an unfavourable light for years on the television. For vaping, and the vaping community, the media is not a particular friend of ours. There’s a lot of claims made which are just not right, and they damage the reputation of vaping as a practice. That’s why we’re going to take a look at some of the most common lies told about vaping, and debunk them.

Vaping Is Worse Than Smoking?

No! One of the most consistent lies which is told is that vaping is somehow worse for you than smoking. This is entirely contradictory to the premise of vaping, as it’s a product which is a safer alternative to smoking for people who want something to smoke. Regular cigarettes contain chemicals such as tar and carbon monoxide, which are both incredibly harmful to anyone who absorbs them. Vaping, on the other hand, does not include these chemicals, with the arguably most harmful substance inside the e-liquids being the optional nicotine.

Vape Pens Are An Explosion Risk

One of the falsehoods which you might hear about in the news is that vape pens are devices prone to random and often severe explosions which injure whoever’s using it at the time. However, the reality of the situation is that a tiny minority of the population who use vape pens experience this problem. A vape pen is something which is charged by a battery, like a lot of electronic devices in the modern world. If you put too much charge into the system or misuse the tool, then it is going to malfunction. However, these stories are picked up and used by the media to paint a general picture about vaping accessories which is not true. Mobile phones are prone to similar issues, and you don’t see those being labelled as a problem, do you?

Vape Companies Want To Corrupt Children

Due to the large variety of sweet flavoured and novelty vaping liquids, a lot of people assume that vape companies have an ulterior motive and want to sell to innocent children. This is, in fact, the opposite of the truth. A lot of vaping businesses have a demographic of people who smoked before vaping, and it’s also illegal to sell anything with nicotine in it to minors. Any respectable vendor of vaping supplies will ask for ID when they’re unsure, and will not sell anything to children.

Overall, these are just a few of the different rumours which you see in the media about vaping. Naturally, nearly all of them are false, and instead only serve to discredit the vaping community as a whole. Vaping is a reasonably safe way to smoke and isn’t going to corrupt children or do even more damage than smoking does.
