    For a lot of people, October is something of an interesting month. People often find that when it comes to this particular part of the year, they make an attempt to stop smoking, often for good. Why is this the case? Well, it has something to do with the fact that October is the home of an event called Stoptober. 

    This is a special time where people have to try and stop smoking cigarettes for themselves, and they do so via the support of the NHS and friends and family. Preparing for this event can be tricky, but ultimately worth it. 

    Talk to Your Friends 

    If you’re going to make an attempt to quit smoking, then one of the first things that you can do is to talk to people about it. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, anyone you like. It’s important you let people know of your intentions. 

    Why? Well, it means that you can build up a support group. You’ll have a group of people who are going to support you, root for you, motivate you, and keep you on track. They will help you to see that this is achievable, and that you will do better for it in the long run. It’s especially helpful when you’re struggling at the end of a long day. 

    Look For Official Resources 

    One thing that you can do is to look for official resources. There are plenty of them out there, after all. The NHS is a particularly good choice. It is within their interest to tackle the problem of smoking, because a large portion of the preventable deaths in the U.K. each year are connected to cigarettes. 

    But outside of that, there are other resources available. Information about quitting, how to handle a craving, what to do if you experience withdrawal symptoms - things like that. Get educated, and you’ll be much more comfortable taking on this challenge.
